Skill Building with Adults (18+ years)
One-on-one sessions for Adults with Ds to help them reach their goals towards independence with life skills.
Skill Building with Adults
Individuals aged 18+ years will work with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) on acquiring, improving, or maintaining skills for daily living. Staff will support adults in setting individualized goals relevant to challenges or barriers in their lives and provide instruction to help build independence. Sessions are one-on-one and goals generally fall within these categories:
Self Empowerment
Safety Awareness and Self Advocacy
Interpersonal Effectiveness and Effective Social Communication
Coping Strategies for Everyday Life Challenges
Managing Daily Tasks and Learning New Skills
Sessions may be held at the DSC campus or in the community setting, if located within a two-mile radius of the DSC campus. For instance, if the adult's objective is independence with grocery shopping, the session could take place in the grocery store.
