The Down Syndrome Community of Puget Sound (DSC) has been an active group of parents, caregivers, family members, friends, neighbors, and self advocates in the Northwest since 1988. Since then, the DSC has hosted community events, organized educational series, championed advocacy and self-advocacy for Down syndrome related issues and causes, and provided accurate and up-to-date information to countless families and medical providers regarding a Ds diagnosis.
Today, in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day – a day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012 to celebrate those with Down syndrome – the DSC is debuting our brand new logo!
When designing the DSC logo, we favored words like: welcoming, inclusive, family, inspired, proud, community, and capable.
We wanted our logo to represent the beautiful geography of the Puget Sound with the updated blue and green color scheme, the strong Seattle skyline, and the majestic Mt. Rainier. At the summit, we added a triumphant chromosome – reflecting the unlimited capabilities and endless potential of all people with Down syndrome.
With our new logo comes a renewed commitment to the community we serve. We will continue to provide support for the self advocates, families, and friends of the DSC through our five core values: Outreach, Community Events, Community Groups, Education, and Advocacy.
We will be persistent in fulfilling our mission to provide impactful programs and resources for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families while evolving perceptions in the broader community. Tonight, we’ve arranged for the Seattle Great Wheel to light up in blue and yellow – in honor and celebration of Down syndrome, WDSD, the DSC, and each one of you. We also hope you will celebrate with us at one of our Dine Out for Ds locations: Pecado Bueno in West Seattle or Fremont and Airways Brewing Beer and Bistro in Downtown Kent!
