Yoga Dance Party with Sarah Marquez and Devon Adelman

With accessible yoga poses and breathing techniques, this 4-week in-person course focuses on cultivating self-awareness and moving the body in ways that feel good for each person.
Each 45-minute class will start with a breathing exercise and a warm-up, followed by a simple yoga routine and guided relaxation.
After yoga is complete, we’ll put away our mats, turn up the music and transform our yoga space into an open dance floor for freestyle movement and time for students to enjoy snacks and each other’s company.
This program is open to all adults with Down syndrome 18 and older*

Program Notes:
Yoga mats and blocks are available for student use during class, with the option for students to bring their own yoga mat and/or blocks if desired.
Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that enables freedom of movement and to be barefoot during class.

Meet Class Instructor and DSC Development & Communications Manager, Sarah Marquez!

A yoga student since 2009 and a certified instructor since 2011, Sarah has enjoyed studying a variety of yoga styles and philosophies and teaching in many unique spaces, including a community college, bike shop, domestic violence shelter, and county jail. Guided by her extensive experience as a human services worker trained in trauma-informed language and care, Sarah is passionate about creating safe, inclusive and equitable spaces where people feel empowered to express and embody the full-spectrum of their humanity and celebrate the wonder and power of their voices, bodies, and stories—just as they are today.

Meet Co-Teacher and DSC Community Member, Devon Adelman!

Devon is passionate about advocacy and serves on the DSC Advocacy committee. She graduated college and works full-time in Downtown Seattle. She is the co-teacher for DSC’s Understanding Adolescence & Puberty Program and loves swimming and fitness in her spare time.
