Understanding Behavior

Curriculum

This parent education course is focused on teaching parents, caregivers, and family members strategies and supports to prevent and respond to challenging behavior. Sessions will cover behavior strategies rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis and seek to provide parents with knowledge and increased confidence to address behavior at home.

Session Objectives

  1. Parents will learn about why behavior occurs and what behavior communicates for children.
  2. Parents will learn preventative, antecedent strategies to prevent behavior from occurring.
  3. Parents will learn strategies to teach appropriate pro social behavior.
  4. Parents will learn how to respond to challenging behavior when they occur.
  5. Parents will learn strategies to collect information about behavior to make informed, data-based decisions.

Additionally, the parents will become part of a community of parents seeking to support each other and learn together.

Virtual Classroom

The virtual program will meet via Zoom every Monday, for 1 hour, for six weeks. Weekly materials will be posted on the DSC Parent Portal.
