March 21 (3/21) is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). This date was chosen because it represents the 3 copies of the 21st chromosome which is unique to Trisomy 21 commonly known as Down syndrome. The Down Syndrome Community of Puget Sound (DSC) is encouraging everyone to take time to celebrate people with Down syndrome. On this day people with Down syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world organize and participate in activities and events to raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome.
As part of the celebration, the DSC has partnered with some area businesses for a Dine Out for Ds event. Each of these generous businesses has offered to donate a portion of proceeds on March 21st back to the Down Syndrome Community of Puget Sound, helping us continue to provide resources and programs to our community members.
We are so grateful to these partners and ask that you please help us support them while supporting the DSC!
